Update (04/12/03): Took down one of the Jamie pics and replaced it with a drawing I did recently of Moiraine Sedai, a character from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. This is the first piece I've done with marker in quite some time, but since I have a violent hatred for pencil crayon (even though I used it in some of the lighter areas), I thought I'd give it a whirl. Didn't turn out too badly, except that I'm my own worst critic and every time I look at it, I see all the things I goofed on.
There's a reason for nearly half of the things I do. This page falls right into that logical 28 percent. My mission: well, I'm an art student, as I mentioned above, and as such, I like to show my work to people who never mastered the art of getting their crayons to stay inside the lines of their colouring books, and have them shower me with praise. Something like that, anyway.
Actually, I just like the idea of having my own little space to do as I like with... write and post photos, artwork, and receive feedback (positive or negative... I can take it). It's narcissism in its purest form. Whatever. I'm a 22-year-old who lives with her family and spends 8 hours a day in a crowded art studio. I need my own space, or I'll snap.
The drawings I've got up so far are based on characters from a book series called "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. A friend of mine from my online diary recommended it to me in August, and I read through the first four books in about a month and a half. School got in the way, once it started up again. Needless to say, I'm an obsessive person, and I felt the need to capture my mental images of the characters with pencils and paper. Up top are my pics of Jamie Fraser, who despite his fictitiousness, I am in love with. On the right is Claire Randall, the story's protagonist, with her jars of primitive medicine and doctor's log book. Oh, and there's a painting (done in acrylics) at the bottom of the page besides my links. It's of a porcelain doll I saw in a magazine a while back. More to come, though I'm not sure what, or how I intend to organize it. As Tori Amos says, it will all find its way in time.
